Dr. Dre

Dr.Dre born Andre Young is an American rapper, record producer, entrepreneur and founder of Aftermath Entertainment. Dre has produced and molded the careers of many artists in the industry. As a producer he is recognized as a major figure in the popularization of West Coast G-funk, a sub-genre of rap music considered as synthesizer-based with slow, heavy beats. Dre road to fame in the music industry started as a member of World Class Wreckin’ Cru, Later finding fame with gangsta rap group N.W.A, popularizing the usage of explicit lyrics in rap music detailing the violence of street life. While with N.W.A Dre melded the styles of Bomb Squad with funky rhythms; reworking George Clintons elastic funk in creating G-funk, which relies on sound rather than content. Dre left N.W.A in 1992; later credited to Co-founding Death Row Records with music partner Suge Knight. Dre released his solo album The Chronic and won a Grammy Award for the single Let Me Ride becoming one of the best-selling American performing artists of 1993. For the next four years Dre’sG-funk style was used all through the hip-hop industry.

Dre jumped the sinking ship of Death Row Records in 1996 to start his own label by forming Aftermath Entertainment. Under his label Aftermath in 1996 Dre produced and released a compilation album called Dr. Dre Presents The Aftermath Then later Dre released his solo album 2001 in 1999, leading up to him winning a Grammy award for Producer of the year the following year. Dr.Dre creation of the G-funk also known as Gangsta-funk sub Genre of music was a major technical innovation for Hip-Hop music in West coast. G-funk is funk music with an altered tempo that incorporated layered synthesizers, giving off hypnotic grooves, deep bass, backing female vocals and P-funk, short for reworking George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic style of music

One major characteristic of Dre many must respect is how he has grown in his career from his earlier years to now, Dre started as N.W.A with heavily explicit lyrics specifying the violence of street life. Then pioneered gangsta rap and his own variation of the sound, G-funk.Moving on to Aftermath expressing his style of music focusing on music production, always knowing when to dodge a bullet and come out on top. Secondly Dre is well known and credited for forming artist’s careers such as major hitters like Eminen and 50 Cent.

Asa listener and industry Professional, Dr. Dre inspires me to follow the style of music I believe in. I see now just cause what you create is not the norm doesn’t mean it wont stick. Dre has came a long way starting from west Coast creating G-funk to coming over East Coast and flooding the air waves with his styles and expertise of music. Dre work ethic brings light to me, I am a stickler for perfection and feared that it could destroy things for me. After seeing that Dre and colleague Eminem are both sticklers when it comes to perfection makes me feel at ease that perfecting something is not wrong. Dre story also shows us that creative minds come from all walks of life, you make the life you want, not fall to the life you have
